Richmond & Towers joins the Net Zero Challenge20th July, 2021 by Anouska Leon
Richmond & Towers is the first agency in the marketing sector to join the Net Zero Challenge, an innovative digital platform that helps organisations accelerate their journey to net zero.
The London-based PR and digital agency will use the Net Zero Challenge website and app to take part in over 30 carbon saving activities covering recycling, sustainable travel, energy saving, biodiversity and more.
The Net Zero Challenge, provided by sustainability engagement experts Jump, motivates employees to practise positive behaviours that reduce carbon emissions individually and as an organisation. In return they are awarded ‘Green Points,’ with the top performing individuals and organisations winning popular vouchers and charity donations.
The Challenge is a response to the race to net zero by 2050, with employers aiming to achieve this in line with the UK’s commitment. With COP26 taking place in Glasgow this year, the spotlight is on UK businesses to deliver against carbon reduction targets.
The platform uses competitive elements to encourage participants to reduce their carbon emissions with leader boards so organisations can see how their actions compare with others in their sector.
The Net Zero Challenge was launched by Jump in March and already a broad range of organisations have signed up covering travel, technology, higher education and the charity sectors. To date employees in participating organisations have saved 6,547kg of carbon emissions in total.
Richmond & Towers’ has a strong track record of environmental action including creating an Eco PR team, supporting the Green Rewards sustainability initiative, and sponsoring the PRCA Sustainability Group.
Nikki Thomson, Richmond and Towers CEO, said: “We are a 100% employee owned business with a clear sustainability ethos and a determination to do the right thing for the environment. Joining the Net Zero Challenge not only makes absolute sense for us, but I think it will appeal to many other agencies in our sector too.”
The Net Zero Challenge was developed and launched to help organisations achieve their net zero targets. The Challenge is delivered by Jump, the market leader in sustainability engagement programmes who have been helping clients across the private, public and university sectors achieve their sustainability targets for over 10 years. In 2020, across all its client programmes Jump participants avoided 4.2 million kilogrammes of CO2, commuted 267,000 miles by walking, cycling and public transport, and carried out 3.9 million minutes of exercise.
Graham Simmonds, Chief Executive, Jump says: “There are around 25,000 marketing agencies in the UK employing over 190,000 people. This is a big chunk of the UK workforce, so there is a real opportunity for the marketing sector to have a positive impact by fully engaging in the race to net zero. It’s great to see Richmond & Towers leading the way in their sector and we can’t wait to see the positive impact their team will have.”
