2024 was full of flavour and a few taste surprises. From frozen tomatoes, blonde chocolate, and the sweet and spicy (swicy) hot honey trend.
But let’s be honest – every year brings its fair share of food fads. The real question is: Which food and drink moments will go beyond fleeting viral fame and became longer lasting food trends?

Curious about the next big food trend for 2025 – from the rise of lion’s mane mushroom powder to chilled red wine? Let’s explore what’s on the menu for the year ahead.
Gone are the days when instant noodles were just a quick fix for students. Posh instant noodles are filling cupboards and inspiring foodies to get creative. So much so, that searches are up +762.47% YoY on Ocado.com (check out our coverage on The Guardian). TikTok brought us endless instant noodle recipes and noodle ideas (#ramenhacks has over 22,000 videos), proving this simple staple could be transformed into gourmet meals. Just ask Jay Rayner – who adds toasted nori, sriracha and crispy chilli oil his humble Pot Noodle.
2024 was the year that the pistachio chocolate trend captured imaginations and gave pistachio the spotlight it deserves – with searches for “chocolate pistachio” up 49% YoY. Our tastebuds and curiosity were captured by the viral Dubai chocolate bar, which brings together crunchy pistachio and chocolate – but the green nut has been making waves across a raft of NPD from the likes of Lindt and Starbucks.
2025 has kicked off with a real mushroom movement, and Lion’s Mane Mushroom Powder Benefits are the talk of the town. This functional ingredient gained traction, with searches for “lion’s mane powder” up +265% YoY – with claims suggesting it may have a positive impact on cognitive function and aid digestion.
Red wine served cold? You heard it right. And add a bit of spritz, and you’ve got the drink on everyone’s lips.
With a huge 1,233% increase in searches this year for Chill Bill, it seems we’re experiencing a newfound love for spritzy red. We’re predicting this drink will be THE drink of the summer, allowing red wine lovers to sip on a lighter, chilled alternative of their go-to bevvy.
In 2024, olive oil went from pantry staple to gourmet hero. Whether it was drizzled over a dirty martini or churned into olive oil ice cream, this liquid gold showed off its versatility. Looking ahead to 2025, we predict a focus on education around what makes a good olive oil, from understanding its smoke points to its unique health benefits. Brands like Good Phats are driving the trend, with searches up +24% YoY as shoppers seek quality and flavour in every drizzle.
Our desire for that hit of umami reached new heights in 2024, and with this desire came a new generation of foodies embracing MSG. Catalysed by content creator LoganM who helped to make MSG in cooking mainstream and accessible with his viral cucumber trend on TikTok, searches for ‘MSG’ increased by a whopping 136%.
